Mechanical Design Engineer

Surrey NanoSystems is at the leading edge of Nanotechnology and they are currently seeking a mechanical design engineer to work as part of an inter-disciplinary team designing and preparing for production, a range of semiconductor vacuum systems. The role is one combining mechanical detail design of small modules and system design using Autodesk Inventor 2008.

Candidates will have an opportunity to become fully involved in the engineering process. Working with the Design Manager and the Engineering Team the successful candidate will be involved in detail designing vacuum components, system design and related parts. You will be involved in all aspects of projects from the initial concept through to full manufacture.

We are seeking a mechanical design engineer preferably educated to a Degree or HNC/HND level in mechanical engineering or a related discipline. You should be fully competent in the use of 3D CAD, preferably with at least 2 years experience using Autodesk Inventor or other 3D solids based CAD system. Good basic engineering skills are required with a good understanding of mechanical principles. You should also be fully competent in drafting and tolerancing to the relevant international standards.

Candidates who are interested in this opportunity must be confident communicators, organised, with attention to detail, drive and ability to complete tasks to tight timescales.

At least 2 years experience of designing mechanical components for use in the Vacuum Industry is desirable but not essential. Having general engineering industry experience is however essential.
